Now that summer’s here, the one thing I will not be doing is wearing pants. Here in New York City, it gets hot, sticky, and borderline unbearable, and the thought of willingly stepping out wearing fabric that clings to my legs feels like pure masochism. So trust, I’ll be living in shorts all season long. I wear a variety of styles—don’t even get me started on a good mid-rise denim short. But since I know I’ll be reaching for them constantly, I’ve been wanting to branch out into different cuts and silhouettes. Lately, I’ve especially been into the whole Bermuda shorts trend that’s been taking over fashion recently.
If you also immediately thought of Adam Sandler when you read “Bermuda shorts,” trust me, same. My mind instantly goes to those swim-trunk-looking shorts he’s always wearing. But Bermuda shorts actually refer more to the style's length and tailoring. They typically hit right above the knee—about half an inch to an inch above—and have a more structured, fitted silhouette rather than an oversized or baggy look.
Sure, there are cargo versions that lean a little more dad-style, but lately I’ve been seeing them done in tailored trouser fabrics and denim, which makes them feel so much more elevated and fashion-forward. Styled with a blazer, a statement top, or even a button-down, they’re such a cool way to do business casual without committing to a full suit moment or feeling too formal. When Margot Robbie stepped out in a pair earlier this year, she gave the trend a cool, sleek spin that completely sold me on the look. Because I’ve been fully obsessed with them, I’ve been on the hunt for the perfect pair. After much scrolling, I finally found the one from Mango—and they’re only $60.
These are actually denim, but the pleating gives them a more refined look, which I love. The white colorway feels so summer-coded, and it has that effortless European vibe that fashion people are always chasing this time of year. I can already picture them tossed over a swimsuit with leather sandals or with a fitted polo top for dinner after a beach day. Either way, they’re serving Euro-summer, and I already know you’ll be seeing me in them with an Aperol spritz in hand somewhere along the Italian coast.
